An Islamist group, widely reported to be the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), has intensified its blockade around Bamako (Mali’s capital). The blockade has disrupted food, fuel, and medical supplies. These actions are seen as an attempt to pressure the Malian government and undermine its authority, since the government is already facing other challenges with their military division. This blockade could potentially lead to a full-blown humanitarian catastrophe, with civilians experiencing the most harm.

Top story from the USA: The Attempted Assassination of President Donald Trump 

On Saturday, April 25 at the White House Correspondents' Dinner an assaination attempt was made, targeting Donald Trump. The suspect Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old from California, has already been charged with attempted assasination but the authorities are still investigating the event.

Top Story from Europe: The Upcoming Meetings of The Council of the EU (May 4–17, 2026)

The Council of the EU will convene for two weeks of intensive discussions starting May 4, 2026. These meetings will bring together EU ministers and heads of state to address pressing issues, like current relationships with China and the U.S., and what the EU’s defences are as well as its stance on ongoing conflicts. The new shift in Hungary’s politics will also be brought up in the meetings because it will affect EU funding.
